10 Hottest Wedding Trends of 2017

January 9, 2017

With 2016 at a close, Sweet Blossom Weddings has been taking special note of the latest and greatest trends that are coming into 2017. Check out these ten latest trends to get inspiration for planning your 2017 wedding or to keep an eye out for at all the weddings you attend this year!

1. Industrial Chic Theme

Industrial theme weddings are taking off in 2017! Industrial weddings feature textured warehouse-like materials and backdrops such as wood, brick, and concrete paired with exquisite floral arrangements with lots of greenery and romantic, feminine details. Color schemes usually focus on neutral tones like grays, beiges, and blushes. #Industrialchic We are obsessed with this look! Industrial venues are usually spacious which gives an abundance of room for industrial and glamorous modern decor; every wedding designers dream!

2. Hanging Elements

No matter the wedding theme, 2017 weddings should have hanging elements incorporated to create visual dimension. Chinese hanging lanterns (pictured below) were one of our favorite hanging elements from one of our 2016 weddings.  Some popular hanging elements this year will be edison bulbs (Industrial chic theme), greenery (bohemian, rustic themes) and chandeliers (elegant/ extravagant themes).

3. Loose florals

Loose florals and floral runners became a recurring theme towards the latter end of our 2016 weddings, and we know this trend is going to continue into 2017! This look fills the table and adds colors and texture for a striking visual experience. From a long reception table to a sweetheart table, loose floral runners can be used to add visual dimension and a romantic feel. Pictured below are examples of this look executed by two different weddings we were a part of in 2016.

4. Mix of Metallics

Votives, centerpieces, geometric vases, glassware and silverware are trending in mixed metallics; rose gold, metallic gold, gold, mercury gold, mercury silvers mixed and matched are all a good look for 2017.

5. Amazing Dessert Stations

2017 will shift away from the traditional wedding cake, and unique custom dessert tables will be in full effect. This trend definitely started to take off in 2016. Many of our brides went with a small display cake or no cake at all and stuck to custom desserts i.e. doughnuts, cake pops and mini over the top desserts. We are proud to say that all these dessert table images are from weddings we did in 2016!

6. Incorporating Social Media

Creating a personalized Instagram hashtag is another trend that started in 2016 and will be in full effect by 2017! Custom Snapchat filters and personalized Instagram hashtags are almost essential for 2017 weddings! Almost all of our brides created an Instagram hashtag filter for their big day and displayed personalized signage to let their guests know their custom hashtag.  To find a perfect wedding hashtag for your wedding, go to: Weddingwire.com/weddinghashtaggenerator

We give our brides the option of making a personalized Snapchat filter to be used on their wedding day. When guests take a picture on Snapchat at the venue location, a signature filter with the bride and groom’s last name will come up; we love this little personalized social media touch for a big day.

7. High Drama

At least one high drama piece is essential for any 2017 wedding. Some examples of high drama pieces: personalized gobos, extravagant draping, uplighting, extensive greenery, and over the top centerpieces. All of the listed pictured, except for the last, are some of our favorite over the top pieces from our weddings of 2016.

8. Unique Ceremony Backdrops

Unique wedding ceremony backdrops can bring out the bride and groom’s personality and gives a good way to set the tone of the wedding theme. Whimsical, sparkling lights and greenery ceremony backdrops are going to be seen frequently in 2017!

9. Geometric Cakes

Although dessert tables are taking over the traditional wedding cake, we are noticing that when a cake is the only item for dessert, it is a unique geometric cake. The first cake pictured is from one of our weddings at the end of 2016 and what got us obsessed with the geometric cake trend! We are loving the structure, shapes, and uniqueness of 2017 cakes that are trending.
